I cleaned up my gmail inbox today. There’s 463 emails in the Trash, mostly comment notifications and mailing lists. Despite what Gmail says about never having to delete an email, there are some emails you just really don’t want to clutter up in your mailbox.
Here’s a tip I learned. While organizing all of my emails, I wanted to search for all emails that do not have a label assigned to it. Unfortunately there’s no easy way to do that. To find all non-labelled emails, you have to list all of your labels and look for emails that do not have these labels. For example, if you have three labels Friends, Work, and Backup, you have to type in this search term: -label:Friends -label:Work -label:Backup. If you have many labels like I do, it takes a while to type. However, you can store the search term as a persistent search, using greasemonkey and a user script. And voila! You can search for all non-labelled email in just one click. ![]()
