I’ve been using Mint as my web stats program for so long now that I don’t look at my Awstats stats program any more. I really should though. Today I checked the statistics in Awstats, and found this:

What is this bot/spider/thing and what is it doing sucking up so much of my bandwidth? It doesn’t show up in Mint because Mint uses javascript to track visitors. I did a search and found this thread in a forum where people have come across the same thing, so I decided to ban the above IPs in my .htaccess file.
Next up: I need to get around to stopping people from hotlinking. I’ve noticed people linking the icons in my icon gallery from myspace, xanga, and all these message boards…

I totally hate it when people hotlink images. Although I’ve actually accidentally stopped a site from hotlinking, although it was actually me that was hotlinking the image.
oops!

I’m running into the same kind of problem now. I use images from my site in my LiveJournal, but I want to stop other people from hotlinking on their LiveJournals, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to do this.

I would LOVE and adore for someone to really explain to me how to tell if someone is hotlinking your files and how to determine where they are. So I’m asking you since you’re so smart ;0)
