[sight]:: What is the most visual stunning website you know?
That’s a tough one. One I guess is csszengarden.
[taste]:: Can you order any kind of food through the web from where you live? Have you ever ordered?
Nope, I don’t think you can order food here. I know in Toronto there is grocery gateway, but I haven’t ordered from them before.
[smell]:: With the digital scent technology developing, what would you like to smell over the internet and how do you think this will affect how we interact with the web?
Wow! This is the first time I’ve heard of this technology. I don’t know if I’d ever be able to associate a website (like Yahoo) to a certain smell, but it would be nice to smell food, and body lotions and things like that.
[touch]:: How fast do you type and what kind of mouse do you use?
I type somewhat fast. I tried many of those typing tests on the net and they showed ~ 55 - 60 words per minute. I slow down a lot when I have to type in numbers, though.
I am using a Val Gear optical mouse with a scroll wheel. I bought it because it was cheaper than the other ones, and I like it because it’s really light!
[hearing]:: Have you ever paid for downloading music from the internet? Do you usually hear music while you surf the net? What kind? Streaming or local?
I haven’t paid for downloading music before, but I think eventually I may. If I listen to music while I surf the net, it’s usually from my collection of mp3s. But occasionally, I’ll look through the radio library in Winamp and listen to the stations from there.

Skin 10
Sunday, January 25, 2004
I’ve put up a new skin! It features sheep. I think I started this 1 1/2 months ago. :p My fav part is the little sheep icons, which are just screenshots from this freeware program.
Other things:
- I’ve reorganized all the stylesheets in all the skins to follow a basic structure. This took a while to do, but in the end it makes things easier to change in the future.
- Both blatherskite and words have new matching layouts.
- Put in a few words. I’d been neglecting that blog lately. I am going to aim for adding at least one word in there for every letter in the alphabet.
- New page: stats.
- I put in BlogTimes, which is a dynamically generated graph of the times I post. Check it out here.
Funky Monkey!
Thursday, January 22, 2004
As you may or may not know, the Chinese New Year is coming up soon, and it’s the Year of the Monkey. To celebrate, apparently, some women are buying their husbands underwear with monkeys on them. It’s cute, but I wouldn’t want my guy (*cough* if I actually had one *cough*) wearing one of those!
domain la
Thursday, January 22, 2004
I’m still not finished with the site maintenance yet. It’s going slowly. I wasn’t going to blog anything until I was finished, but…
I came across this site blogging.la, and I was most surprised to see the domain extension, “la”. It turns out the city of Los Angeles has its own official domain registry! It sounds so cool! My family (and a lot of chinese really) say “la” or “ah” a lot. For example, “Yvonne ah, take out the garbage” or “Be careful la”. Once we went on this tour to China, and the tour guide said “la” all the time. My brother and I would count how many times she said it, it was over 100. ![]()
Imagine a conversation between the owner(s) of blogging.la and a person.
Person: What are you doing la?
Blogging.la owner: Blogging la.
Er, well, I find that funny. ![]()
On the site there’s a chance to win a free .la for life. I entered, just for fun, not that I’d win it of course.
Unclosed Entries and Site Maintenance
Wednesday, January 21, 2004
Finally went back and wrote up all the closed entries I had mentioned earlier. Am now in the midst of testing out a new skin. Which means a couple of the pages on this site (archive calendar, history, search) will be looking a bit wonky for a bit for several days since it is taking longer than I thought. Now this is why I am reluctant to get started, because I know it’ll take forever to get it finished!
Function Customizer
Tuesday, January 20, 2004
Michel.be’s Function Customizer looks very powerful. I like the fact that it can work on multiple weblogs and/or categories. But the only thing I can think of using it for is for links to recent comments. For now, that is…
Love Actually is All Around
Monday, January 19, 2004
On Saturday I saw Love Actually. It was a good funny movie! There were a ton of great actors in it. The movie follows the lives of several different couples, and the love that blossoms (or doesn’t) between them. At first I was overwhelmed and then got kind of bored with all the different characters, but in the end it all made sense! Only complaint is: more than enough nudity in it.
The soundtrack for the movie is good, too. That actress singing at the end was amazing!
( Favourite quotes from the movie )
Saturday Senses Week 21
Monday, January 19, 2004
Here’s the scene: you start walking from nowhere and its completely dark.
[6th sense]:: How do you feel about being in the dark? As you walk, do you feel that there’s something good or bad ahead?
If it’s completely dark? I’d probably be scared, especially if it’s a lonely, quiet, and late at night. Although I’d know that nothing bad would happen, I’d probably be tense and jumpy too.
[smell]:: First you smell something. What is it?
The smell of fear. (From me). ![]()
[hearing]:: Then you hear something. Can you identify what it is? Where does it come from? Is it loud? Is it pleasing, scary, irritating?
I’d hear the slight breeze of the wind, and the leaves and branches making a “ssshh, shhh” sound. It’d be scary and make me feel even worse.
[touch]:: Is it cold or hot? What are you wearing? What do you feel beneath your feet as you walk in the dark?
It’d be slightly chilly. I wouldn’t be wearing enough to feel comfortable. There’d probably be leaves on the ground too, so I’d hear them crinkle as I walked over them.
[sight]:: Things start to clear up. What do you see? Where are you? Whats around you? Describe your environment. It could be anything, realistic or not.
I’d see trees all around me, I’d be on a road in the wood. Then I’d see headlights, and a car coming from the other direction, but the car would pass quickly.
[taste]:: Is there something in this place that you can drink or eat? What is it? Do you eat/drink it?
Nope. I’d be completely alone.
[touch]:: Now that you can see what’s around you, do you touch anything? How do you interact with this environment?
I’d try to get out of the wood as fast as I could.
[sight]:: You now realize there’s an exit. Do you want to get out or would you rather stay? Why? Describe the exit. Do you leave?
The exit would be just a dim bluish light leading out of the woods. I’d hurry to the exit.
I remember once, in Grade 9, my class went on a trip to the Kawartha Region (near Peterborough, I think). It wasn’t really camping, because we did get to stay in a cabin. Anyway, one night every single one of us had to walk down a stretch of road, by ourselves, in the dark. I was pretty scared at that point, I remember walking really fast so that I could get it over with. When I was given the scene above, I remembered this moment.

LiveJournal Protected Post
Saturday, January 17, 2004
It took me all morning to figure this out, but I got it working!
I am pleased to present my livejournal entries. Even the protected entries. If you’ve registered already on my site, you should be able to see it. This is the equivalent of being added on my friends list on lj.
Now I have to quickly go get dressed and head out the door (going downtown for lunch). I will explain some more later.
Edit: I said I’d explain, but now that I think about it, there isn’t even much to explain. I wanted to see if I could get an rss feed of my journal, even with protected posts, and I managed to do that (thanks to this post). So I thought, why not parse the rss feed and place it on my site? That way you don’t have to be signed up with LiveJournal to view those posts.
