Find words ending in…
Saturday, December 30, 2006
In a previous post I mentioned coming up with words ending in “se” for use in registering Swedish domain names (as they end in .se). It turns out there is a site – More Words – that does just that – it lists words ending in certain letters. According to the More Words, it is a “crossword puzzle solver, anagram lister, codeword decoder, and a helper for other word games”.
So, I could use it for finding neat top level domain names like .us (United States), .ge (Georgia), .la (Los Angeles), .aw (Aruba), .my (Malaysia), .be (Belgium), .co (Columbia), .gs (South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands) and so on. It’s fun! ![]()

Decorating your site for the holidays
Saturday, December 23, 2006
Since I made a post about decorating my desktop, I thought I’d make another one for decorating a website.
If you want to spruce up your site for the holidays, here are some links:
- Seasonal Elf and Santa Smilies from Connie at Schildieproductions. Also, check out the Santa smilies and the Winter and Christmas Smilies.
- Christmas Holiday Icons from N. Design Studio.
- Falling Snow effect using javascript from Dynamic Drive.
- Create some Christmas graphics by following the Christmas Photoshop Tutorials.
- Add a realistic-looking Santa hat to your photos.
Decorating my computer for the holidays
Saturday, December 23, 2006

The Tinseltown theme by TwisterMC for Firefox is adorable! It’s really detailed and puts me in a festive mood.
On my desktop I’ve got a snow man background and in my dock I’ve replaced all of the icons with holiday ones.
For more downloads, check out the 12 Days of Holiday Downloads post and the Holiday Cocoa Duel.
Happy Holidays, everyone!
Calvin and Hobbes Grammar Mistake
Sunday, December 17, 2006
I was reading the above Calvin and Hobbes comic strip this morning, from Revenge of the Babysat. I noticed that there was a grammatical error on the last pane. Strange I’d never noticed it before! I tried searching online to see if someone else had, but I couldn’t find anything.
Also, someone typed up by hand all of the text from the Calvin and Hobbes comic strips. They’re organized by date. This is soooo useful when looking for a quote from the comic. There are no images available on the site, but you can easily search for the images elsewhere once you have the date.
Cute Hello Kitty Gadgets
Sunday, December 17, 2006
A while ago I made a list of cute gadgets. I’ve collected enough links to make more lists. Here’s a Hello Kitty only one.
Credits go to Shiny Shiny, Popgadget, The Red Ferret Journal, Engadget, Gizmodo, and Google.

Hello Kitty MP3 player – a tiny mp3 player with 256MB of space.

Mitsubishi Hello Kitty car – a Hello Kitty themed car, the only one of its kind.
There are more in the extended posts, the pics will take a while to load.

Good way to replace hotlinked images
Sunday, December 10, 2006
I visited a site the other day where someone had posted a hotlinked image. The owner of the site hosting the image had replaced the image with another one – this is one of the common ways to let people know about hotlinked images. In this case, it was really easy to tell that the image was hotlinked, because the replaced image was around 3000px long! There was a long horizontal scrollbar on the page, and the text in the image explained what hotlinking was, and how it was bad.
I thought that was a really good idea, and I should get around to doing this myself. ![]()
Lots of Shiny Updates
Tuesday, December 05, 2006
Here are a couple of neat updates in the past few days:
- ExpressionEngine 1.5.2 and the Forum module 1.3.2 have been released.
- The beta version of Parallels allows you to boot into Windows XP from the Bootcamp installation, among other things.
- Shapeshifter 2.4 has been released, and it’s a Universal Binary! Which means I can finally use it on my Intel iMac. Shapeshifter is a theme switcher.
- Joyent Bookmarks has been added to the Joyent suite.
