Akismet and EE

I disabled captchas on this blog today and installed the Akismet extension for ExpressionEngine. It worked beautifully, and stopped about 82 comment spams on my blog in 6 hours. None made it onto the blog. I was surprised to see such a high number! The captchas work just as well – I got maybe 2 comment spams in the last year while using it, and they were done manually – but with the Akismet extension, it makes things more accessible.
Goodbye, Green Frog
Sunday, September 17, 2006

Tonight was the A Night of Favorites and Farewells for The WB television network. After 11 years, they are merging with the UPN to form the new network, the CW.
As a farewell, they aired the pilots of some of their most popular television shows – Felicity, Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dawson’s Creek. It is somewhat sad, as I watched all of those shows when I was growing up and loved them.
Some other shows on the WB that I liked:
- Young Americans
- Popular
- Jack and Jill
- Roswell
- Three (this didn’t last long, but I really enjoyed it!)
Tonight I re-watched the pilot episode of Dawson’s Creek that they aired. Even though I have the series on DVD, I wanted to watch the original episode, with the original music. (sniff sniff) Then I did a search on YouTube, and found the video for a promotion the WB did a few years ago.
Goodbye WB. And goodbye to the green frog, whom I will always think of as the network’s mascot even though he was fired a while ago.
What is this Disco?

I love getting (free) stuff. So when I hear about this somewhat mysterious and yet-to-be-released app called Disco, and I learn that I can get a look at it for free if I blog about it, I am going to blog about it.
There are a couple of hints out there as to what it might be.
Merging Folders in Mac OSX
Thursday, September 07, 2006
The August 2006 edition of MacWorld has a nice hint on how to merge the contents of two folders together in Mac OSX. In OSX, if you copy a folder to another location which has a folder with the same name, OSX will replace the folder. This is different from how Windows XP does it – Windows XP will merge the contents of the two folders. You can check the XvsXP site for more info. I needed to merge the contents of two folders together (I will be posting more about why later
) so this was a really useful find.
The solution is to use an Apple Developer tool called FileMerge. It’s not installed by default so you have to install it from the installation DVD.
Edit: Hmm.. after playing around some more with it, it takes a lot of time to use. But it does work.
