Delirious, not crazy
Monday, August 30, 2004
On Friday night, I had a fever and no matter what I did I couldn’t fall asleep. As I lay there, I started daydreaming. I was in an Olympic race, a race on the track where there were 4 laps. If I was able to run (or complete) all 4 laps, then I’d finally be able to sleep. I simultaneously ‘ran’ around this track and cheered myself on. Whenever I reached the final lap, though, I’d be too pooped out and be unable to finish it. I was soooo close, three-quarters of the way to sleep! And I wanted to sleep so badly! As Shakespeare said in Macbeth, I wanted “the innocent sleep, sleep that knits up the ravell’d sleeve of care.” (I had to put this quote in :p, it’s one of the fav quotes from that play. I even thought about it that night.)
Every time I quit the race, I’d turn and settle on another position to sleep in. Then I would think, “let’s try this thing again”. It became an endless cycle. I was in bed from around 12:30 to 10:00am, so you can imagine how many times I went through that.
I was aware what was happening, I knew that I didn’t *have* to complete any kind of race to fall asleep. My mind was playing games with me, but I couldn’t find a way to ignore it. That ‘dream’ always came back. I really thought I was becoming crazy that night. But you know, I also had a fever too, so maybe the correct word would be delirious.
Not feeling well
Monday, August 30, 2004
This past weekend hasn’t been good. On Friday, after dinner, I felt slightly dizzy and feverish, and I had to lie down. So I spent the entire evening reading a book (the book is good). By the time I went to bed I had a high fever and spent all night tossing and turning, trying to fall asleep. It was so frustating because every muscle in my body was tired and I needed to sleep!
The next morning, Saturday, I woke up with a massive headache and back pain. The back pain was because I had tried to sleep in so many different positions.
The headache and the tiredness persisted all day. I still had an appetite, but every time I swallowed something I felt the urge to throw it back up again. I was just glad my fever was gone. Sleep came easily to me that night, thank goodness.
( The next part is kind of gross )

My Quote of the Day
Saturday, August 21, 2004
One of the advantages of being disorderly is that one is constantly making exciting discoveries.
I had lots of fun (not) today trying to organize all my files. I’ve thrown away receipts, movie ticket stubs, old school notes that I’m never going to look at again, at least three letters from my uni asking for donations, and old library notices. I save too much stuff.
I did find a $50 bill though!

Site Upgrade to EE 1.1
Saturday, August 21, 2004
Finally upgraded to EE 1.1 (earlier this week), which was painless and fast. There are so many new features! The ones I like most are:
- category descriptions
- show/hide template groups
- templates can be exported
- templates can be saved as text files
- subscription manager (manage all comments you are subscribed to be email)
- ‘on the fly’ variables

Somewhere up in the Arctic, NASA scientists find an object buried deep under the ice. This object is an incredible discovery that will impact the entire world. More importantly, it will boost the credibility of the U.S. president Zach Herney, who is struggling in the upcoming elections. He asks several civilians to go to the Arctic to verify the discovery, including Rachel Sexton, an NRO employee and Michael Tolland, a respected scientist who has his own TV show. But what they find up in the ice is a hoax and an enormous cover-up, which they have to find a way to reveal the cover-up to the public without getting killed.

OK, I admit I started reading this book because I saw Johnny Depp’s face on the cover of it.
The book consists of four novellas, one of which is ‘Secret Window, Secret Garden’, the novella which the movie Secret Window is based upon. I haven’t seen the movie, and I wanted to read the book first.
That’s hilarious

Apparently I’m not allowed to link to the official Olympics website without permission. (I linked to it on Monday). They have a hyperlink policy where you have to contact their Internet Department with your info. I’m not sure what they mean by “a link embedded in copy”, but that is way too troublesome!
Olympic Viewing Record
Tuesday, August 17, 2004
There’s a Guiness world record for watching television? That’s ... weird. But then there are Guiness World Records for lots of things. The current record is at 50 hours, and people are trying to pass that by watching the Olympic games.
