Release of the Turtle
Wednesday, June 23, 2004

Isn’t that a beautiful sight? (Click on image for a bigger view) I live a few minutes by car from this lake, I should go there more often. :p
We finally released that turtle today. It was not a red-eared glider like I had said before, but a painted turtle. The top part of its shell is dark coloured, but underneath it’s very pretty, almost like it is painted. The poor thing refused to eat anything we tried to give it, so we thought it was best to let it go. It looked soooo happy (and so small) when it finally was allowed to swim freely!
More photos are here.
Text Replacement
Tuesday, June 22, 2004
I’d really like to use the dynamic text replacement technique one day. It’d be even nicer if someone wrote a plugin for it in EE so all the details of it are hidden.
Tonight I’m going to attempt to upgrade to SuSE 9.1. I’m still using version 8.2 now. I had someone install it for me initially, so I’m slightly nervous that I’ll screw something up. *crosses fingers*
Here comes the invites
Monday, June 21, 2004
(This is a cross-post.)
I have some Gmail invites to give out. When I checked my email today I found out I received 6! Two are gone already, for sure, and I don’t know about the third one, so I have at least 3 invites left. If you would like an invite, comment to this post. I do ask that you visit these links though.
New email
Monday, June 21, 2004
This is my new email address:
![]()
I just used my name as the username although sometimes I wish I had chosen something more fun. (I got the idea to put it in an image from Lauren.)
I’ve been giving out the email address to people I know offline, and telling them about the whole invite thing. They say pretty much the same thing - “I don’t need another email address” and “Did you know that Yahoo! is offering 100MB of storage?” Baaah. I think that since Yahoo started offering 100mb of email storage first, people who don’t have a gmail account and don’t know about gmail will sign up for a yahoo account. And they won’t want to bother switching when gmail allows open signups.
Father’s Day
Monday, June 21, 2004
Today was Father’s Day. (Happy Father’s Day!)
We decided to have a barbeque to celebrate it. The food was delicious - lots of ribs, and quail. We were originally going to eat outside on the deck. But there was a soccer game (Spain vs. Portugal) going on, and both my dad and my brother wanted to watch that. My mom sat with them so in the end I sat outside by myself eating. :p I didn’t mind, though. The weather outside was perfect. Plus, a little while later I was joined by some new friends - rabbits! They’re wild rabbits. I’d seen one of them before, but today there were three.
Here’s one (click on the image for a bigger picture):

Whenever they saw me move slightly they froze and kept on staring at me. Some time passed before they started moving and eating again. If I made any large movements they bolted.
Yet another blog
Saturday, June 19, 2004
I added a media log, using this. Which brings the total number of blogs I’m using with EE to 7! (Well, two are hidden and one is a blog in disguise.) The new blog loads very slowly and I’ll try caching it.
I’ll be posting current media content (e.g. books I’ve read, movies I’ve watched) to it plus a little blurb if I feel like it. It’s not a list of the media I’ve already read/seen, those are still on my mediachest profile.
Build Your Own Comics Page
Saturday, June 19, 2004
Oooh! Oooh! This is great! The Houston Chronicle has set up a Build Your Own Comics Page. You choose the comics you want to view, and then it’ll generate a page with all of them for you to bookmark and check daily! This is much better than my current portal ones because they have a larger selection of comics.
Site Downtime
Saturday, June 19, 2004
I just got an email from my webhost reminding me of a scheduled downtime tonight. (It was the first time I’d heard of it, but at least I did get some warning.) It’ll be at 10pm PST, which is 1am my time at EST, and it’ll be down for 30-45 minutes.
