Gmail Plugin

Man I love this Gmail checking plugin. I’ve got it installed on my main page now. Whenever I’m online I’m probably going to be at my site, constantly refreshing.
Wireless networks everywhere
Tuesday, June 29, 2004
I took my laptop outside to the backyard to enjoy the nice weather and the sun. I went back inside after a few minutes, though, because the sun was so bright I could barely see anything on the screen. While I was outside I did pick up two other wireless networks besides my own. And then when I sat in the living room (which is the part of the house that is nearest to one of our neighbours) I picked up yet another network.
Color in Motion
Tuesday, June 29, 2004
You have to see Color in Motion, “an animated and interactive experience of colour communication and colour symbolism.” It’s so cool! I found it on del.icio.us last night. You have to watch all the movies, too. The music and animation are ... wow.
Your Friendly Site Update
Tuesday, June 29, 2004
The number one thing I love about Expression Engine is that I can have multiple weblogs each with custom fields. What I don’t love about this is that I have a gazillion templates to update. I can’t use the homogenous templating thing because all the fields are customized.
I’ve made a couple of small changes.
- smileys are now inline
- comments can be previewed live (thanks to this and this)
- wrote a paragraph about member registration
- all 4 weblogs now show up on the main site
- all 4 weblogs have their own RSS 2.0 feed
- I created a new RSS feed that has entries for all 4 of the weblogs here
- blatherskite (links log) and words have changed URLs. They both used to be in a separate subdomain but I decided not to do that anymore because it’s too redundant in EE.
Things that still are messed up
- I can’t get the comments page to validate without hacking into the code.
- Member information isn’t skinned yet
In my last entry, I said “some of the pages might look wonky”. I never say the word wonky in real life.

Twenty Questions
Sunday, June 27, 2004
I’m in the midst of tidying up all my weblog templates right now. So if some of the pages might look wonky, don’t worry.
So anyway, I have a journalspace account that I never use. I got a private message from the admin there today, and this is what it said..
As you may already know, access to our new site, twenty-questions.com, has been controlled during the site’s alpha test through the use of invitation codes.
For the next 48 hours, the invitation code requirement has been lifted, and anybody may create an account. We’re doing this because we need to begin testing certain new features that require a large base of active users. After the 48 hour period, new accounts will only be available to those with invitation codes, while we add new features and fix any problems that have arisen.
Curious, I went and checked it out. It’s a site where you get to ask questions to other people, and answer questions posed by others. I’m guessing it’s a great way to know more people and know them better. If you do sign up, list ‘absolut’ as the person who referred you!
You can see my twenty-questions profile here. Feel free to ask me a question!
Edit: Apparently you don’t need to sign up if you want to ask me question. Just go here.
Hmmm. Gmail invites.
Friday, June 25, 2004
There’s this site that gives out free gmail invites. They post the URL to the invites that people donate in. I tried clicking on them, and they were all gone. :p I didn’t need an invite though. What bugged me was that if the invite is used, the link will show the newly created email address of the person who used that invite. It doesn’t look like the email address is munged or protected in any way. Wouldn’t it be really easy for spambots to get at it? Although it takes longer, I think it’s much safer to send an invite to a person’s email instead of leaving it open like that.
Expression Engine Links.
Thursday, June 24, 2004
Today I went and transferred all of my ExpressionEngine bookmarks over to into Spurl, a bookmark manager. I noticed that they had recently added a directory feature, where you can ‘publish’ your links into a directory. Since I wasn’t using my Spurl for anything else (I use Furl instead), I thought I’d put it there. They’re mostly bookmarks to posts in the forums, so that I can follow posts that I haven’t commented in, and I can keep track of posts which scroll off the first page. You can see all the bookmarks here.
