One *long* book meme

Monday, May 31, 2004

This meme is really, really long.

*bold those you’ve read
*underline those you own but haven’t gotten to yet
*italicize those you don’t own but plan to some day
*add three of your own
*post to your livejournal wherever

( 422 books, and I've read so little... )

The Eye Pod

Monday, May 31, 2004

The EMP-ZII MP3 Player looks so adorable! It’s an egg shaped MP3 player that you can wear around your neck. (link via shiny shiny) If you look at their display, though, it looks a little too much like Tamagotchi to me. silly

Lapine Language

Sunday, May 30, 2004

Bit’sn’Bob-stones is soo frickin’ amazing! They have a page with an introduction to colloquial Lapine, which is a language that rabbits speak. The language originated from the book Watership Down by Richard Adams, which was one of my favourite books as a kid (it still is a favourite). From there I went to a Watership Down Code and photos of the *real* Watership Down. Argh! How cool is that!

My Watership Down Code is this:
WD1.1 W+++T+N?S?RHaRSiRBiG+L+g?F?A—w+C-D-t++P?r+a2*sfnCDNc++

According to the The Geek Test (from mefi), I’m 22.68245% Geek, which qualifies me as a Geek, but that’s only one step above “Geek Tendencies”, there’s a lot of levels still above me.

And, using the Magical Name Acronym Generator!, I get this:

YYoung
VVirtuous
OOld

Funny how I’m both young and old, naughty and nice, all at the same time. smile

Simpsons fun

Saturday, May 29, 2004

I’m having a pretty lazy afternoon over here.

We have this TV channel that plays “The Simpsons” almost non-stop. I’ve been sitting in front of the TV now for 2 hours now watching it, which is 4 episodes, and there’s another one coming up in the next hour before they show something else! Right now they’re showing the end of A Streetcar named Marge. I love this episode, mostly because of Maggie when she led the other babies to recover their pacifiers, and when Homer came to pick her up. grin

I also redid the icons on my computer. I’ve been using the SNOW.E 2 ones for months now, and I needed a change. I changed them to the d3A set. My laptop is so pretty now! smile I also like Seed so I’m using that next.

Skins are working now

Saturday, May 29, 2004

The “skins” are working now. All it’s doing is applying a different stylesheet. I’m using this tutorial, which maybe I should have done from the start (would’ve saved me from all that trouble last night).  The downside is that there’s one extra click involved to get back to the main page.

Stupid stylesheets

Saturday, May 29, 2004

I’ve been trying to get a CSS styleswitcher working on my site. I don’t know why I’m having so much trouble! I’ve tried three.

One worked great when I was offline but not when I tried to implement it on my site.
Another loaded way too slowly.
A third only worked sometimes and it didn’t work on subdomains.

I’m giving up for tonight. grr

Escher With Lego

Thursday, May 27, 2004

I like this lego version of M.C. Escher’s painting, Relativity. (found off the Spurl hot list) I always thought that the painting was an optical illusion and you couldn’t actually model it, but I guess I was wrong. smile They did cheat on the Waterfall one, though. (I have this last one on my wall in my room).

Here’s another link with lots more Lego sculptures.

Portrait Illustration Maker

Wednesday, May 26, 2004

That’s a closest version of me, as rendered by this portrait illustration maker.  :p They are supposed to be the perfect size for a MSN Messenger icon. Maybe I could use a smaller version as a member avatar? Heh.

Phone Spam?

Wednesday, May 26, 2004

The phone rang just now, so I went to answer it. I heard a clicking noise on the phone, and then I heard a recorded voice, a woman, speaking. The recording went something like “Hello, I’d like to tell you about this great service called Regal Something-Or-The-Other. You can yadda yadda yadda do this, that or some other thing ....” I listened to it for about 20 seconds and then hung up. I was so annoyed! We get spam through email, fax machines, and I guess telephone marketers are “spam” but now we get phone recordings? Sigh.

We get several other interesting phone calls here. Once in a while, this woman calls from the United States, saying that she was looking into some credit card information and our phone number was listed, is this in Illinois? I’ve answered the phone when she rang a couple of times and each time I told her “No, I’m in CANADA.” My dad got so annoyed the other day at these calls that he yelled at her and said never to call again. She didn’t, so that’s good. smile
